Animal print rugs are a little bit like Marmite, you either love them or you hate them! Some designers can’t get enough of these bold, striking patterns whilst others have found them tacky and distasteful. Animal print is actually gaining trend again so what better way to show you’re in the know about fashion than displaying a gorgeous animal print rug on your floor. Really it’s a personal preference, so if you have never been quite sure of them or have always loved them then read on for some ideas on these quirky rugs that can make a whole lot of difference to your home.

Many people with children like to use animal print rugs in their children’s rooms, especially for those children that love animals and the idea of going on safari. Animal print rugs are available in various sizes, patterns, colours and shapes so it should be easy to find one that your child will love. Try giraffe print or tiger print rather than zebra or leopard for a unique twist on the animal print rug.

As animal print rugs are readily available in so many prints it’s fairly easy to invest in one that will match the current decor of your home. Zebra print is fairly neutral as it’s normally available in black and white, but with so many styles available you can actually get zebra print in pink and black and other combinations that may be better suited to your current colour theme. For warm tones choose a leopard print rug as it often has a gold or brown colour base, warm tones imply reds, yellows, oranges and even pinks. These colours will complement a leopard print rug perfectly giving a luxurious and modern feel to any room. You must decide on what kind of rug you want, whether it is obviously fake or a simulation of the real skin. The pattern is one of the biggest decisions as you’ll want to make sure it matches the rest of your room. Choose the size carefully as you don’t want to give your room the wrong look, a smaller rug can sometimes look better than an area rug as it creates a centrepiece rather than the whole room being too overwhelming.

For those of you who like the real deal but don’t like the idea of having a real tiger, leopard or zebra hide on your floor then cow hides are available in dyed animal print for an authentic yet more affordable design piece.
